From the Preface: There are many reasons why air law reflects the points of view of individual nations; some nations, e.g., France, Great Britain and Italy have had an effect on the development of the air law of nations that were within their traditional spheres of influence; most nations, other than Scandinavian, are committed to different groups of multilateral international air law agreements; the problems of a federated state differ from those of a unitary state; and some nations, e.g., Australia and Great Britain, have dealt by statute with a number of aspects of air law in such detail that they have excluded their courts from areas where ours often act. The air law of the United States is unlike that of any other nation in the world, and some of its unique features may be the despair of insurers in London and in Zurich. However, the nations of the world look to our development with considerable interest. The text portion of this volume is supplemented by some valuable material reprinted from other sources and by extensive bibliographical material. This book has been prepared with an intent to present perspective without merely repeating what has been said in other available sources. The First Edition of this work, as attempt to close a fifteen year gap in air law material published in the United States, was a necessary step in the development of this one and will be of continued utility to those who make use of the judicial opinions and other materials contained therein.
